Engravings

I love engraving because it is a branch of sculpture which is full of delicacy and nuance.

Engraving has a nobility in the sense that there is a pressure on the tool which cuts into the wood. But this pressure is held back. This communicates a meditative state. And it is this meditative state which is extremely precious to me.

It is through engraving that I link sculpture and painting, and linking these two mediums leads me to creating coloured sculptures; thus thanks to engraving I am able to integrate more easily painting and sculpture together.
